About Sending Photos for Website
It's a Digital World
Photos and references from letters and other documents belonging
to people who live/or ever lived in Elgin County add so much to the
website and the history of our community - even if that history
happened yesterday! So, if you have been assembling some
digital records - scanning photos or documents or ephemera relating
to military service and if you do not object to sharing them
through the Elgin Military Museum website, please send them along.
The images can be formal or informal, views of far flung places or
everyday happenings. There is no guarantee that they will all
appear on the website, but I will try to get as many up over time
as possible. If the volume is too large, image pages can be changed
from time to time. All the images will go into the museum digital
collection.

Have You Tried This?
Recently, I have been having fun scanning old postcards my
grandfather, Ian Cameron, collected during the Great War and then,
using Google Street View or other websites, trying to find out what
they look like today. If you catch this bug, and scan old postcards
sent to friends or relatives during the wars, why not send a copy
on the the webmaster! Christmas cards and invitations are
interesting too.
Do You Know Something We Don't?
From time to time, you may see images on the website where the
captions are very 'brief'. If you can add any information, please
let me know. This is especially useful when it comes to group
photos taken a long time ago. It may take the memories of more than
one person to establish who's whom or where the picture was
taken.
What to Include When Sending Photos
- Some people don't want their image on the internet. Please be
careful what you send.
- Please identify as many people in the image as you can and if
it is a guess, place a question mark after the name. It doesn't
matter if you do not know everyone, perhaps we can complete the
list as often group photos were taken by many people at the same
time and each remembers their particular friends best.
- If you know the date, location and or the circumstances under
which the image was taken, include a note about them.
- If you know who took the picture or who should get the photo
credit (___ Collection), let us know.
- Remember that the higher the dpi or number of kb's the better
the image will look on the screen and anything over 300 kb could be
used in printed materials (i.e., photocopied for our reference
binders)
- Don't forget to add ATTN. WEBMASTER on the
subject line of your email.
